Wanton Leaf: Ask Wanton Leaf

My friend called me long distance with an issue neither he nor I have ever seen before.
The only PC vitals that are known are as follows:
OS: Windows XP SP3

Turns out that the user was login'd to Windows. While opening a MS Word document, the user noticed some odd behavior patterns.
The world calendar was removed as well as several desktop icons.
Now on every complete startup of Windows, it will get stuck in a reboot loop after aprox 2 minutes.
The user can access SAFE mode. But when rebooted in standard mode, the reboot loop continues , again in 2 minute intervals of being logged in.

Has anyone ever heard of a reboot loop created by a MS Word doc? I was thinking it could be a Master Boot Record issue but again I never heard of this sort of problem.

Could anyone give me a list of possible cause and their fixes.
Thanks
